In my life this week...
We have been celebrating my moms last week of work, she is retiring. Such an exciting time for her and it makes me so happy to see her this excited.
In our homeschool this week...
Bryanna is still working on a study of China. She finished her project on Panda Bears this week and now has to start getting the next project started...making egg rolls. Looking forward to trying those. BW is moving right along learning new words and reading simple sentences, I am so proud of him.
Places we're going and people we're seeing...
We have Upward Basketball, which includes practice once a week and a game on Saturdays till the end of February. The kids are having a blast and I am enjoying watching them play.
My favorite thing this week was...
I had the opportunity to go to my moms work for a retirement party they did for her and I was so amazed at all they had done and all the compliments they gave her. My mom is truly a sweet and caring person and it showed by all the people she worked with. She is going to miss them but I think they are going to miss her as well.
What's working/not working for us...
I am not sure of our history curriculum for Bryanna, I am doing a lot of research right now to see what I can find that will be a good fit. I have learned BW does better with learning words if I put them into a bingo game, make him index cards with his words on them and then when he learns them put them on the wall .
Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...
Any ideas on a science curriculum for a 1st grader and 7th grader?
A photo to share...

Hi Annette! I'm back to blogging (formerly Arbor Creek. I love the new look of your blog! Following you once again :) Tell Bryanna that Michaela says, "hi."
Stopping by from The Homeschool Chick. Not sure what type of science program you're looking for, but in the younger grades we did a lot of nature study and simple experiments using many of the Usborne books. Also loved the Nature Readers by Christian Liberty Press. Blood and Guts is a great resource for your 7th grader-she could get started with some dissections. If you prefer something laid out for you more, many people love Apologia. Not sure what your style is since I'm stopping by for the first time. I prefer to use many resources in our home and not so much packaged curriculums- but that's not always the case. Blessings! :)
I have used the Magic School Bus books for a jumping off point in science. We did one all about the water cycle, and also one about the human body. They have so many titles, and I think your ages of children would like them. I pulled resources from the web and it was very low cost and fun science! Just a thought.... I'm new to your blog, coming from the Homeschool Chick!
Stopping by from the Homeschool Chick as well. First time visitor. It sounds like you had a great week and yay to your mom... that is so awesome!!! :) I am not sure what kind of Science you are looking for but we are doing Apologia Astronomy right now. We really like it. I have also looked into A Reason For Science. It looks really good. It's more of a general Science and it goes from 1st-6th grade. Apologia though does both grades. I hope that helps some.
We love Apologia for science. I mentioned it in my journal this week.
Your activities for the study of China sound like great enhancements. I'm visiting from The Homeschool Chick's link and am following your blog now.
I gotta throw in another vote for Apologia's Young Explorer series - any of them!
We love Apologia too! 7th grade we used their Zoology 2 Swimming Creatures of the 6th day. 8th grade we did General Science and this year we are doing Physical Science. Wish we had found them sooner!
